Alltrax 400 is on my wish list, but I'm not going to drop the money on it until all the factory installed smoke leaks out of my stock controller. So far, 2 years of daily abuse for probably 7 months of the year and it is doing fine. Every time I think about the Alltrax, I put $20 away towards the purchase and just laugh about all the times I have been told that the stock controller won't last with 23" tires. My ultimate goal is 42v with the Alltrax 400.

Haha. Well that's good news. Well I guess I'll start with the new wires and see where that takes me. Still curious about the different chips though and what people rec commend.

Here's a chart showing the four J-2 Plugs (Speed Chips) and one showing the speed and regen braking level for each.

A stock controller turning 23" tires may last for years, or in might release the magic smoke the next time you push the pedal.
One thing is for sure, you lost over 20% of your torque and most likely didn't gain 20% in top speed.

Dropping a DCX400 in will recover the lost torque (and then some) and increase the top speed.

When I was feeding a stock PDS motor 36V via a DCX400, I was getting 24 MPH on 18.3" tires and the speed climbed to 28 MPH when I went to 42V.

The DCX400 will operate at 36V, 42V and 48V, but not all solenoids do.
The 48V Super-Duty (400A Continuous/1000A Peak) one I have does, so I didn't have to change solenoids when I changed voltages.

So if I decide to get a dcx400 and new cables should I also get ahd solenoid or is it not needed. If so can someone point me in the right direction or is there a whole kit I can purchase. Thank you.

The stock solenoid is only an 85A unit, which is marginal for stock height tires and golf course use only. You need a high amp solenoid.

Add a "B" suffix (#808B) if you want the Super-Duty solenoid that works at 36V, 42V and 48V.

As usual JohnnieB, great information! You have played with both, would you suggest just skipping the 400 and go straight for the 500? It seems to be better bang for the buck for those of us that can never get enough!

720 deer I very surprised that controller of yours has not given up the ghost
Most people's controllers will and have gone way before yours I do know some stock controllers may have a higher output then other so called stock units ,yours may be one of them

So with the #808 kit I will still have to upgrade my cables as well. So I'm looking at about $700 all together. Hmmm
