More speed for 2012 Ezgo TXT
my question us related to programming the original Curtis controller to get more speed...I have seen a programming tool on eBay part # 1311-4404 but most say it's designed for Club Cars....some say it will work for my model of EzGo with the correct plug design. I guess I am looking for some definitive answers or an alternative before investing $300 in a used programmer. I have heard there are some work arounds but this late model EzGo seems to be a little unique. I am new to golf carts but willing to listen and learn. Let me know your thoughts...Thanks

Re: More speed for 2012 Ezgo TXT
The best speed you can get with the programmer, if "freedom mode" is enabled, is about 21 mph. With stock gears and stock wheels. And this is if you know every trick in the book. You can get a little more with the speed magnet (hard to find for this motor, i think). This stock motor just doesnt have the "umph" for speeds above 23-24mph at 48v in my experience. As soon as we got our first "sepex" 48v TXTs, i immediately went to work trying to wring every last bit out of it for little money (speed magnet & programmer tweaks). The programmer you are looking at will work if you have the correct plug and a F&R switch like a ClubCar Precident (they use similar but not interchangable controllers).

You can't take it to a nearby ezgo dealer and have it programmed? Seems to me that would be cheaper then buying a programmer and hoping it will work.
IMO, A better path for more speed would be an aftermarket controller like an Alltrax. |

Re: More speed for 2012 Ezgo TXT
It is a ring of magnets on a disk that is attached to the armature shaft of the motor. A speed sensor is mounted in close proximity to it and as the speed magnet is spinning, ever time the polarity of the magnetic field impinging on the sensor changes from N to S (or maybe it is S to N), a pulse is sent to the controller, which counts the pulses and divided by the number of magnetic pole pairs to determine motor RPM.
The stock speed magnets EZGO uses have eight magnets, or four pairs of poles and put out four pules per armature revolution. The Curtis sepex controllers used by EZGO limit the motor to about 4,400 RPM, which is 17,600 Pulse per minute with the stock speed magnet, or about 294 PPS. If you replaced the stock speed magnet with one that only had half the number of magnets, the controller would think the motor was only spinning half as fast as it actually was and the motor would be allowed to spin up to 8,800 RPM before the controller imposed limit was hit. Of course, that is only in theory, in reality the motor would only be able to spin at about 5,600 RPM if the stock voltage was voltage applied. |

Re: More speed for 2012 Ezgo TXT
Ezgo has regulated all freedom mode upgrades to 19.6 mph. They are purposely staying under the 20 mph mark. The Alltrax XCT control will give 35% more torque and net 22-23 mph with stock tires.
