Well, Solder is a solid wire connection = That can't be compromised by corrosion like a butt crimp... but the butt crimp can be insured by the use of dielectric compound or silicone squirted into the connectors before the wire is inserted and the connectors is crimped.

When you work commercially you tend to over do the simple stuff so you avoid the call backs.

I disagree. Solder is a dissimilar metal so you will get corrosion if you get it wet. Crimp connections are just as good if done properly.

As always you do what works for you. I have seen many crimp connections failed.
Newsflash: your crimp connector is a metal dissimilar to copper wire too

These crimps appear to be done wrong. Looks like someone fed wire from each side and crimped it once. That won't work well.

I was not saying the crimp connections wont have corrosion problems. I was saying that solder connections are not immune to that. You will be hard pressed to find soldered connections in carts or cars these days. They tend to be some form of crimp on terminals.

That only means they are the cheapest connection - not the best.

If soldering isn't among your skill sets, my second choice would be non-insulated crimp type butt-splices with shrink tubing to protect the connections from the elements.

Third choice is insulated butt-splices, but you may have to use smaller diameter shrink tube to build up the diameter of the wire's insulation to get shrink tubing that is large enough to go onto the insulated butt-splice to shrink far enough to make an airtight seal.

I would not put both circuits in the same shrink. If water ever gets in it you will have more problems down the road from corrosion leaking between the pair.
