Battery Cable upgrade?
Does a battery cable upgrade to 4g make a huge difference. It seems like an easy upgrade if so. Thoughts?

Re: Battery Cable upgrade?
hmm well 4g is definitely a better cable than 6g, but as far as performance difference in the car I don't think you will notice lol. Still, its a good idea to change them to 4g because it allows better current flow and handles a little more

Re: Battery Cable upgrade?
If you have stock components and your cables are in decent shape it does not make much of a difference. Makes more difference if you have upgraded your controller for more current.

Either way; it's step 1 in upgrades whichever way you go.

Re: Battery Cable upgrade?
I agree. Every watt of energy lost due to cable resistance is a watt wasted and not being used to move you along. It can add up to hundreds or thousands of wasted watts with many factory guage high current cables.

Re: Battery Cable upgrade?
If you plan to upgrade your controller and motor later, I would go ahead and spend the extra on 2ga cables. Its not that much more. When I upgraded to the XCT500, I also changed my cables from 4ga to a 2ga set at the same time. After I swapped the controller and the motor wires, I still had my 4ga wires on the batteries. I did a few test runs with the new controller and then felt my 4ga cables. There was a warmth to them. Not too warm, but definitely noticeable. I completed my cable swap and did a few more test runs. The 2ga cables had absolutely no warmth to them. I bought the 2ga set on ebay for $95. They were made of welding cable, soldered, and heat shrinked on the ends. I am very pleased with them.

When I had a stock cart, i put on 2 gauge cables as suggested.
My old cables were in bad shape...but I could swear the new cables gave me a +1 or +2 in the MPH. Just saying... Cheap upgrade and seemed to make things better. Sent from my Nexus 6 using Tapatalk |

Re: Battery Cable upgrade?
It really depends on the state of your existing cables. These carts are engineered to haul 2 men and their clubs short distances over and over again all day long. 6g cables are as cheap as they can go and still last the life of the first lease. Now if you have a 1998 cart on original OEM cables, new cables are going to be a noticed improvement in performance and range.
Cables are a cart's veins. |
