Default 36v dpi charger question.

Just got my 36v dpi charger in and plugged it up to my cart. It went through all the normal stages , yellow blink, yellow plus green, and green. Then all leds flash a few times and the process starts all over Again. I left it plugged in and it did this for a few hours until i unplugged it. Is this normal or could it be a sign of bad batteries? The charger is brand new so I don't suspect it, but Before I got charger I charged all batteries and they were holding at 5.7 each so the low voltage isn't a problem. Just wanted to check to see if this is normal for a charger first time being connected to battery pack.

Thanks

I'm only a noob @ carts but based on the SOC chart I got from cartsunlimited.com with my order, 5.7v is less than 10% of charge on a 6v battery.

So are u saying my charger isn't recognizing the pack? Is that why the lights keeps cycling through the same process over and over

I would say your battery pack is to low for the charger to come on. Charge each battery up more and then try the cart charger

Ok I plugged the charger in again this evening and the yellow light keeps flashing instead of cycling through all the lights like it was doing yesterday so I believe that is a good sign it's starting to charge. Will know more in the morning.
With charger plugged in and on, the pack is reading a steady 44.5 volts. Is that normal for the charging process? Thanks

One quick other thing I wanted to mention about the new dpi charger is that the D.C. Ampere meter on front doesn't seem to work or hasn't moved. Any thoughts?

From the manual: Stage one-Pre-qualification test. yellow LED flashes slowly. this stage applies tests to the battery pack. The duration of this stage depends on the condition of the battery pack. Usually only a few seconds but could be as long as 5 hours.
Stage two-bulk charge. Yellow light goes steady on and the amp needle swings to ~ 20 amps and will slowly decrease over time (hours). If this is not happening there is a problem with the charger -- not likely-- or a problem with the batteries--likely.

Also: If you are unsure of the battery in your DVM-- change it. Weak battery in the DVM will produce unpredictable results with the meter usually reading higher than actual.

kernel so what your saying is if the dc amp meter on charger isn't working then its likey the batteries are toast? they all individually read 5.7 (with the use of my12v charger) before i started with the dpi so i figured the volts were high enough overall to register with the charger.

Story on the batteries are the golf cart had been sitting and not charged for a yr or so and when i got them some were severely discharged down to 1-2 most at 3 volts so i kinda figured i wasn't going to get much use out of them. was hoping for the best but with the dc amp meter not moving and charger keeps cycling through and restarting charging sessions I'm gonna guess and say batteries are shot to hell and back. looking at the plates they look really grey and clogged looking but then again I've never really looked at a brand new plate either. any guesses? probably batteries?

Even if you spend days getting your batts to charge
They probably will be pretty week
Use them for the core charge

Your are gonna needs batts sooner than later.
Start with new batts
Then you get to use & maintain them for 4 a 5 years

I'm saying that based on your description, the charger is not progressing from stage one (battery pre qualification test) to stage two (bulk charge). During stage one the charger attempts to bring the pack up to a minimum voltage it likes before it will progress to stage two. It gives itself 5 hours for this before it gives up. at which time it should flash and error code, most likely the one for severe under voltage. This is all in the manual that should have come with the new charger.
FLA batteries do not like to sit around in a discharged state and will sulfate themselves to death in short order.
IMO the DPI is an excellent charger but it is not magic and won't bring the batteries back from the dead.
Based on the info you've provided so far it would be logical to assume your batteries are toast, dead, nada. As Golferdave said they are valuable as cores.
