Default Can't decide if I Hate my Golf Cart or Myself

I have a not so EZ-GO TXT that I just screwed up. It's a 36 volt Series cart.

At the end of last season my cart quit. After a few months I took it into the shop and dropped $600 on rebuilding my controller, a solenoid and a reed switch. However, when I got the cart back the batteries were shot.

This weekend I bought 6 shiny new batteries and installed them myself. It was late and I had 3 kids climbing on me but mostly I'm a fool. The batteries were installed backwards with the polarity reversed.

I corrected the problem but once again the cart is completely dead. It will not move and makes no noise. In addition, the charger will no longer work. When plugged in it makes no noise and the dial doesn't move.

From searching the forum I'm afraid I am buying another controller but am wondering why the charger won't engage. Did I fry the charger, a fuse or something in the connector? Where do I start (again)?

Thanks everybody

Fried the charger fuse if it was plugged in while batteries were backward. Charger fuse will either be on main battery B+ terminal, or inside charger. And yes, the controller & reed switch are likely fried as well.

But maybe not since the solenoid was open - try replacing or bypassing the reed switch in the charge receptacle

Thanks. I called my local cart guy and he has reed switches in stock. I am going to pick one up on the way home tonight. I will check the charger fuse tonight and cross my fingers I didn't fry a second controller.

It will be fun to see what else I can break tonight.

Make sure you have like a 12" wrench you can drop in the battery compartment. You will be surprised the amount of sparks that can make

Wrenches are good but big vise grips are better. Don't bounce as much!

And don't feel bad. Trust me, every single poster here has done things like that over the years. It happens. If I had all of the money in the bank that I spent repairing my own goof ups, well, I would have a lot of money in the bank. It is human to make mistakes. Learning from them sets us apart from other animals.
