Choosing and replacing a 36v controller
I have what looks like a four post 5 pin 1206 mx controller on my 1994 Medalist and after going through the diagnostics listed on the forum, I need to replace it. I can't seem to find a four post replacement. I would like to find a 500 amp replacement at a reasonable price since I have a lift and large tires and usually have 4 people riding on some hilly terrain. Can someone advise me which direction to go and if a post can be added on a three post controller that looks like it has a spot for a fourth post? I see some posts about Scottyb and his controllers. Thanks from a newbie.

Re: Choosing and replacing a 36v controller
Welcome to BGW
The 4 post controller was abandoned in the late 1990s. (sounds like a long time ago - lol) The industry found that that terminal connection was actually causing alot of controller failure. A 3 blade controller will work in any 4 blade system. The 4th blade is identified as A2 and it has 2 cables on it. Simply imagine taking these 2 cables off and splicing them together to make one cable with out changing their other end destinations. That's it. Now click this link and read 10 reasons to choose the new Alltrax SR controller for your cart. And be sure you compare apples to apples. My SR controller pkg includes a solenoid, resistor, diode, and mounting hardware. Also Ezgo solenoid brackets are available for just $13.95 Happy hunting > the choice is clearly Alltrax here > 10 reasons to choose the new Alltrax Controls |

Re: Choosing and replacing a 36v controller
You might want to go to 48Volts if you are replacing the controller anyway.
With the big tires you will need a nice boost in torque that 48v will give you. I went with a modern replacement Curtis control found on ebay for a decent price. It's programmable for 36 or 48Volts check it out and do lots of research on your choices |

Re: Choosing and replacing a 36v controller
Curtis controller programming is available to anyone now. Buy a $25 FTDI USB to Serial-TTL cable, download the software, and DIY.
Instructions are in the following thread. http://www.buggiesgonewild.com/elect...ontroller.html I still prefer the Alltrax controllers for DC carts, more bang for the buck! |

Re: Choosing and replacing a 36v controller
Not a bad 500 amp controller for 189.00 if you go with the 125m-5603 Curtis clone or 289.00 for a real Curtis 1205m-5603 !
If you can afford it, the Alltrax Controllers are more user friendly though. Last edited by Seaquell; 05-15-2017 at 03:52 PM.. Reason: Spelling |
