Default S/G belt is slipping like a MOFO! How to tighten it up?

Ever since I bought it the S/G pulley has slipped a bit. So I thought I would tighten it up a bit.

Turns out I made it looser than when i started.

So how in the world do you tighten it up by yourself? Or is it a two man job?

Also what is the after market belt for a 1992 motor?

Thanks for the help!

I use a bar or a stick to pry the S/G into a position where the belt is tight and then tighten all of the bolts while maintaining some pressure... Careful not to over tighten the belt with type of method.

Then how do you hold the wrench and ratchet at the same time as the pipe. I guess i need a second set of hands right?

So i guess, that i should just take the belt down to NAPA and they can then match it up?

last winter I tried to do it myself... I ended up calling a buddy over for a couple of beers to help me out!
It's just easier, and faster with a second set of hands!

On a previous Plymouth I would use a broomstick to lever the Alternator by leaning on it with my shoulder while I tightened the bolt/nut.

Make sure the belt is not riding in the bottom of the pulleys.
Friction comes from the sides of the belt and if the belt or pulleys are worn past that point it wont matter how much you tighten.
If the pulleys are worn you can go a step wider up to a 4L belt to get it off the bottom.
