Default G1 piston and jug

I have a G1, and it has an issue. We've replaced the piston, rings, and jug about once every two years. It is used as a track pit vehicle, and truthfully, not used a lot, or ridden hard. I've not touched the governor. About every other season it will start to lose compression, lose power, and you have to stay hard on the choke to get it run. We've tried adjusting the carb. Runs great for a while, then fades away. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I read how tough these things should be, and can't figure out why mine is such a dud.

Do you tow the car with it?

No sir, no towing. Just a beer ride.

Sounds like the crank bearing might be beat. The slightest up and down movement on the connecting rod will ruin the rings.

I would look at the air filter for leaks,
Does it show signs of running lean or lack of oil?

Check bottom end rod bearing, mine was shot.
How are the main bearings and hard to check when non running but the crank seals especially where it has been hard to start.

I still have the engine on the cart, was going to pull it off this weekend and freshen it up. Just hate to keep doing this over and over. Should I remove the oil injector and mix? If I do, what's the proper mix? I will go ahead and get crank seals, and will check the bearing when I get it apart. I admit that my air filter box is a hodgepodge of nuts and bolts, but I don't believe that there is any air leakage.

Careful on the oil mix. The stock injector mixes at 150:1 per the manual. Too much oil means less fuel in the mix, can cause a lean condition.

book says variable ratio between 20:1 and 150:1 depending on load. working in the boat industry also for awhile, all of our test fuel tanks ran 50:1, i feel its pretty safe. also, i never hear of anyone burnimg up their G1 at 50:1, conversely, i have seen many "variable ratio oil injection" boat motors burned up by a failure in the "VRO" system.
