1995 Club Car DS Potentiometer
Hi guys, I need some help diagnosing and fixing the neighbors golf car.
It is a late 1995 DS, serial # begins with A9530. The cart is only running at about half speed, but the worse problem is the shuddering on acceleration. I have read several threads about slow speed and testing a Potentiometer problem, but non seem to include the shuddering symptoms we have. I have tested the pot using green and yellow wire at the Controller, and get varied results. testing with an old analog meter, on the 1K range, I get 10, or 10,000 at no pedal and 5,000 at full pedal. I hate to pull the pot out and replace it only to find out that isn't the problem. Open to your suggestions, for further testing. Thank you, gkcooper Last edited by Aflyer; 01-26-2017 at 02:21 PM.. Get a digital meter, it's 2017
But yes the correct signal is 0-5000 Ωs from this device. Shuddering - sounds like one or more bad batteries. |

Re: 1995 Club Car DS Potentiometer
scotty,
Thanks for the quick response, and yes I need to go get my meter. The battery pack does have one weak battery, but is currently putting out 55 volts from recent charge. Cart is up on Jack stands and still shudders or bucks on hard acceleration. And only reading about 50 at the Motor connections. Took it for a drive still shudders on acceleration. No real answers yet. |

Bad battery or high amp connection. What does the pack voltage read when the solenoid is getting hammered (shuddering)?

Re: 1995 Club Car DS Potentiometer
Oh ****, I am back home, will try that test tomorrow.
He added a lot of water to the batteries, a couple of them were right at the top of the plates. It has only been through one charge cycle since the water was added, so we put it back on charge about an hour ago. Will check it again in the morning, and do the battery check under load. Now how do you do a battery check under load? We were testing today with cart on stands, I don't think that really simulate under load, but hard to drive cart with meter connected. Thank you!! |

Re: 1995 Club Car DS Potentiometer
It's a pot-box and it's way out of range. I've seen it numerous times. Your best bet is to replace the pot-box with an MCOR4 conversion kit. Part number AM293201. Parts are no longer available for the pot-box. It's supposed to be 5k-0 from no throttle to full throttle. This will fix your throttle signal issues, but a potentiometer issue won't cause shuddering on acceleration. This sounds more like a low voltage issue.

Using the old analog meter if the sweep is nice and steady tru the range i would rule out the pot .Those old meters if its a good one for testing a pot is better in my opinion then digital. If there is no dead spot i dont believe thats the problem. Is this a motor controller cart i had one do the same was a bad controller.
