Default Wiring getting hot

As a new owner of my first golf cart I have a question in regards to the wiring to the electric motor. The motor has just been reconditioned and the wiring from the forward/reverse controller to the motor seems the be getting hot. Is this normal ???

It has a lift kit and bigger tyres fitted but that's about it. Everything else stock.

Cart is a 2002. The wire is the white one which runs from the forward/reverse lever.

Not the front and rear. The forward and reverse switch.
