New to me PDS no click
So I got the buggy from an auction so no idea of the history. It is a PDS with the FnR push button on the dash. No idea what year.
The first thing I did was check that it was cabled correctly. It was not. The positive and negative cables were backwards. fixed that and looked into the solenoid (I'm sure more is messed up at this point). I replaced the solenoid. With DVM on B+, I have full voltage on both small terminals. With DVM on B-, I get full power on negative big terminal. and .7 volts on the Positive big terminal. I did put a resistor between the large terminals, but it got so hot i could smell it. also replaced the IT sensor and microswitch. I feel like the controller is probably bad but wanted to work slowly through it. Any help as to what to check next would be appreciated. |

Re: New to me PDS no click
Double and triple check your wiring with a diagram as something could be off. Once you're sure it's correct, and the solenoid is still not clicking..check the 4 pin molex connector that runs from the pedal box to controller. 1 corroded or bad terminal not making contact has usually been the reason for my solenoid to not click. Well either that or a bad microswitch. I always eliminate that connector by cutting it off and splicing the wires together and it fixes the problem 90% of the time.

Re: New to me PDS no click
If the mains were reversed it might have trashed the controller. That cart won’t have the 4 pin molex underneath. Another failure point is the reed switch in the charger socket. Check for pack + voltage on the small red wire coming out of the loom on the passenger side with the charger wires. If not there connect it to pack positive and see what happens. Also make sure to flip the cart to tow before you mess with any wiring.. Attached is the diagram

Re: New to me PDS no click
Certainly the controller could be bad as result of reversing the main + and -. The pedal box micro switch could also be damaged. Both critical to operation.
The last 2 digits in the manufacture code is the year the cart was made. Carts made prior to 05 have a reed switch in the charge port. This switch may be blown. After 05 the ignition source was a direct battery + connection. The manufacture code is on a plate in the glove box or a sticker on the cross frame rail behind the batteries under the seat |

Re: New to me PDS no click
I'm betting the controller is fried which is causing that current flow through the resistor you added.

Re: New to me PDS no click
Sorry guys, I've been out of pocket. But I got back on it today. Everything is connected per the wiring diagram.
New micro-switch. Battery voltage from the charging port/reed switch thingy . found another post about checking voltage at pin on J1 and J3. On J1, I have battery voltage on pin 1 and 6 only. on J3 it was on i think it is 2 and 4. they are both on the same side on J3. So with this info do you think it is controller still? I do but I'm far from an expert, actually this is the only PDS i've ever seen. |

To get battery pack voltage on J1 Pin-6, you have to have pack voltage on J1 Pins 4, 1, 3 (or 2 if in reverse), 9, 8 and 7 as well as J3 Pins 3 & 4. Attached are images of battery pack voltage through a PDS controller, PDS controller with Pin-1 identified on all jacks and a schematic showing what wires have to have pack voltage on them to activate solenoid. |

Re: New to me PDS no click
You were right. first i counted wrong but I also had the wrong pin1.
I have voltage on pin 5 and 10 on J1 voltage on pin 1 and 3 (i think it is 3, it is directly below 1). Looking at the diagram I'm not sure what is happening. |

Re: New to me PDS no click
J1 Pin-4 needs to have voltage. That is the starting point.
Check for pack voltage on the smaller of the three wires coming out of the backside of the charge port. |
