2011 Yamaha G29 Upgrades

Hey Golf Cart Gurus!

I currently have a 2011 Yamaha G29 with a 3" lift and 22" tires with 14" wheels.

Motor, controller etc is completely stock. What is the MUST-Do upgrades to keep the DC motor alive and reliable?

Upgrade Battery Wires?
Upgrade the Controller alone for the DC motor?
I am trying to work my way into eventually running an AC conversion setup where I could sell my old stuff and replace entirely, but want to work my way into it.

Navitas or Alltrax for the preferred brand?

I appreciate any insight and help! I plan to use this running around the property and occasionally going up the street to local stores etc.

If you are thinking of AC, I would hold off on controller / motor upgrades because you will be dumping those when you go to AC. If you have a stock Hitachi motor, I would think about replacing the brushes and cleaning it up inside. No other mods are going to make a positive difference in motor life. When you do go AC, I would then upgrade your cables to 2 gauge.

I agree with VA. If you are going to AC, don't buy anything except motor brushes until you are ready to make that leap.

1) Curtis controller - Simply the best. Smoother than all others.

2) Navitas - Pretty good. Nice AC conversion package.

3) Alltrax - Any controller that needs a fan is not designed properly.

I have lots of experience with Alltrax. Very solid controller. Fan isn't necessary - it's an option except on the 500 amp version. But it's only available in DC. Alltrax doesn't seem to be doing AC controllers which is too bad. If I were doing a cart today, I would do AC for sure.

Sure because manufacturers always design for parts that aren't necessary.

AWESOME input! I may just hold off alltogether on upgrades since cart runs great as it is. I will save my pennies and go AC conversion kit.

With consideration of being able to sell my 2011 Yamaha G29 stock controller, solenoid, battery cables and dc motor I am going to run a full Navitas DC/AC conversion kit. I just need to decide the following>

Navitas 440amp controller with a 4k Motor
or
Navitas 600amp controller with a 5k motor

upgraded 2gauge wires or 4 gauge wire kit?

I’m under the impression the 5kw motor will not fit inside the coil over. You have to get the 4KW motor but can still get the 600 amp controller. That is the set up I have.
