Default What puts cart in neutral?

I have a 91 ezgo marathon 2 cycle gas that won’t go into neutral after replacing the broken driven clutch spring. I couldn’t find a spring listed as a stock spring so I put one in listed as a power spring. The spring is heavier. Would that cause it to not go into neutral? What exactly puts the cart in neutral? The cart rolls just fine with the belt off.

The spring might have to much compression. The clutch is mad to engage at higher rpms than idle. At idle the clutch should be spinning but not engaging the drive belt

There is no “neutral” on a 2 stroke cart, no transmission either for that matter. The engine spins forward to go forward & runs backward to get reverse.

I realize that but my friend who owns the cart claims it rolled easily in neutral before. But then again the spring was broken. Shouldn’t it roll easily in neutral?

A 2 stroke does not have a neutral. Only forward and reverse. .
And it's not in the rear end

The only way it will roll easier is. Remove the belt, or take the plug out,

You really need to get an exact replacement. Measure the wire diameter with a micrometer or dial caliper, the overall diameter, the length, number of coils and the end type (half circle, flat turn, etc). Try McMaster-Car.
