Default 1989 ezgo marathon solenoid problems

I have a 1989 ezgo marathon with a 3pg. I changed out my starter generator a few weeks ago because the battery became extremely hot and melted the positive terminal.

After installing it, I replaced the voltage regulator just in case it may have been part of the problem.

Everything was fine for days. Then, the cart intermittently started having problems starting. It would click from the solenoid. But, after a few minutes, it would start. That didn't last long. Then the solenoid stopped altogether. I could only get clicks.

So, I replaced that. It worked for a 1/2 mile and stopped.

So, i replaced that with the same result.

I am in my garage now, trying to figure out what i am missing. I need help.

It could be a bad ground anywhere. Here is something to check first. Put a jumper cable between the positive battery post and the solenoid. See what happens.

Sometimes hidden corrosion climbs up that cable and causes your symptoms.

Thanks. While checking cables and connections, my wife said that I should check the positive since that was the only cable I hadn't touched. I replaced it with one of the new cables I bought. Sure as that, the problem was solved.

The positive cable was not even on my radar.

Thanks.

(and thanks to my wife...)
