EZGO Loses gas to carb overnight
I have a EZGO utility cart that will not crank in the morning. Starts easily with a spray of starter juice. Starts perfectly all day after that. Tune-up at cart shop had no effect. Replaced fuel pump and filter yesterday. Checked for hose issues. None found. Started right up from empty fuel line with starter spray.
This morning would not start. Spun starter for two minutes 20 second at a time with cooling pauses. Never started. Spray of juice and started right up. Sounds like it needs a gas backflow valve to keep gas at the pump. Suggestions? |

Fuel pump should do that for you unless the fuel lines are bad on the intake side or the pump itself is bad.

Could it be the choke not closing all the way?

Re: EZGO Loses gas to carb overnight
Never use the choke. Seventies now.
Filled a nearly empty tank with fresh gas and the same thing overnight. Problem appears to be that gas is leaking between the tank, or fuel pump, and carburetor or siphoning back into the tank. Seems like enough gas would remain in the bowl or downward sloping hose from the pump to start it that first time. I'll check the filter for gas before the next start. Only takes overnight to cause the failure then good all day. No sign of drops or dampness or dust buildup. Guess I will just replace lines from the carburetor back to the tank even though inspection did not identify any problems. Any last thoughts? |

Re: EZGO Loses gas to carb overnight
I'd check your oil to make sure it isnt overfilled (from gas getting into the oil). I'd think it's more likely the float needle getting stuck and the gas goes downhill into the carb rather than getting sucked back into the tank.
Or make sure your tank is venting properly. Maybe remove the gas cap overnight and see if it makes a difference. Thinking maybe if it's not venting properly, theres a bit of vacuum being created and as it sits its sucking the fuel back into the tank to equalize Just thinking out loud here a bit anyway |

I had thought about that tank cap vent suction also. Still, it should not suck the gas out of the bowl. Fuel in the filter should be evidence of that issue. Haven't thought to notice.
I will check the oil. Did check the pressure/vacuum pulses from the crankcase and they are equally strong compared to my other cart. |
