Default 1982 Marathon Killing Battery

Trying to fix this old 1982 Marathon. My 14 year old got it for free but it sat for quite a while. We bought a new starter/generator and got it running the other day but it would always have a drained battery after a few minutes driving. The battery is also new. I tested the battery after charging and it was 12.4 but as soon as it started it went to 11.4 and diving. Any ideas?

There is a small green wire that goes from the starter to the middle terminal of the voltage regulator. Put the cart on jacks.

Put your meter probes on the battery. Start the cart. Voltage should climb to 13-14 volts. If not....

Remove the green wire from the voltage regulator, and ground that end to the engine.

Start the cart again. Voltage at the battery should climb 15 volts, or more. If it does, the voltage regulator is bad.

The manual is in your other thread.

Another thing I forgot to mention is the starter gets hot after a short time. I will try the green wire test you mentioned. Thanks
