Default Need a charger 48v charger Lester or something different?

Hello all,

I just picked up a 48v 956E that did not come with batteries or a charger. I bought the batteries and not I need to pick out a charger. I was ready to pull the trigger on a new Lester, but want to see if a newer smart charger might be a better alternative. After searching the forum I could not find a thread that weighed charger types, hopefully I didn't miss it

Thank you in advance!

Hard to beat the Lester Summit II series. Use the 650w model on 8/6v and the 1050w model on 8/6v
The Lester has BT capability allowing the user to enter the battery make and model then choose a charge algorithm and view charge progress and history. Plus it will auto sense 36 or 48v and charge appropriately. I don't think chargers get any smarter than this. And it has the longest warranty = 4 years.

Scotty, will it work with a 42 volt system? I couldn't find that in reading the specs, but it seems like it should if it can sense 36 or 48.

I would say it should be programmed to do that particular job. Even with DV/DT charge programs, I wouldn't want to send a 36v, or 48v charger in to do a 42v job. The charger should at least have a clue what its supposed to try to do.

The Lester Summit will charge 36 or 48 volts. It will not charge 42 volts.
You can special order the charger set up for 42v but, that charger will not do 36/48 plus they charge a premium price for the special order.
There are DPI 42v and a Schauer JAC1742H Charger: 42 Volt, 17 Amp available

Is there a special 42v battery(s)?

My cart uses 8 6v cells

Your cart is 48v and Scotty was suggesting the Summit II charger for you, someone else asked about a 42v charger on your post he was answering...disregard the 42v post...

Sorry to cause confusion; Scotty had already answered your question and I was wondering if that same charger would work for my 42 volt cart. I have a DPI now, but it appears to be on the verge of death and I am not planning to try to get it fixed. It still charges, but the needle doesn't move and show that it's charging. I've had a lot of trouble with DPI and will try something different when it dies. Sounds like the Lester is out too.
