No Hill Power Marathon
Ok Guys, took the Marathon to the beach this weekend, first time for anything other then flat land, just does not pull hills. This is a 94 controller cart all stock except new 4ga cables and new batts.Looking for the most bang for the buck, don't want to make a drag cart out of it,just need some hill climb power.Recomendations please, controller????,motor ????,both???? This for my daughter not alot of money to throw at it!Thanx in advance Dave
PS:Has a analog charge meter is not pulling hard on the batts going up hill. |

Re: No Hill Power Marathon
Yep, those carts are dogs on hills. New controller will probably help the most. No more speed but it won't bog down as badly on grades. Most upgrade to 400A or higher.

Re: No Hill Power Marathon
I say a controller. 400 or 500A. But 500 is a little overboard. BTW, what is an EMP?

EMP: http://www.empinc.biz/
They used to be listed as a site supporter. A buddy of mine put their 2 speed motor in his Marathon. It went from around 14 mph to like 18 - 20 mph. He says it drains the batteries a lot faster now, but is way quicker. |

Re: No Hill Power Marathon
Thanx for the input guys, think I'll go controller first, the fact that its not pulling on the the batts leads me to believe the controller isn't making the power avaliable to the motor.Seems logical to me,wouldn't a weak motor be pulling hard on the batts?Dave

Re: No Hill Power Marathon
I would check the components for heat. After a run, touch the solenoid to see if it is warm, all the wires and their connections to the battery terminals, the motor and the controller.
If it is getting hot replace/repair. If you have the stock motor still, then think about replacing it. Motors are available that will increase torque for hills but keep the same top speed for safety (your daughter). Dennis |

Re: No Hill Power Marathon
I'd be calling someone who knows. The EMP guys led my buddy to buy a motor & torque/speed switch. I guess the controller would add like 20% more torque on top of that. But the speed difference in his motor upgrade was pretty dramatic.
