That is kind of the nature of the beast... and your beast is 25 yrs old... How steep is the hill and how slow is slow... could you get out and walk faster than the cart goes?

Re: 1985 club car no power going up hill
If the hill is steep ...., that sounds normal. They were not fast when new. With a top speed of 8-11 mph they can slow to 4mph on a hill... make sure the cart rolls easily on the flats, Check tire pressure, alignment, and brake drag. Sometimes people put heavy gear oil in the rear ends and that creates drag... use a 30w oil or synthetic.

Re: 1985 club car no power going up hill
Have you checked actual condition of batterys? Even though they may be 2009 batterys more depends on quality of batterys and ability of batterys to hold a charge? I would check each battery cell with hydrometer availiable at any auto parts store about $5.00 ( single float temperature correcting scale NOT multi float antifreeze tester ) and then do digital voltage test Harbor Freight $3.-$5. on each battery and compare with stickies listed under "State Of Charge Readings" and post readings so forum can check for condition.
You may have other problems but must eliminate power input before going any further? Its like putting a kink in a water hose and get less flow out of nozzle? That old a cart has resistor coil speed controls that waste much of the power from batterys by just making heat rather than power to climb hills, etc. |
