Looking for easiest way to check brush length and condition of them in motor.
there are 2 bolts holding rear cowl of motor on and an aluminum band that battery cable bolts come thru.. I have a history of always twisting off something when i fool with removing the bottom nut of these type terminals on starters..or solinoids.. Open to any suggestions....Hal |

Re: mandingo8112
Make sure that both the main negative and positive leads of your battery pack are disconnected.
Always use 2 wrench's, one to hold in place the bottom nut and the other used to undo the upper nut along with the cable. Of course same in reverse when re-installing. |

Re: mandingo8112
Thanks scubabud for that info, but the question still remains, how do I get a look at those brushes to determine their condition.. will taking the two small bolts off the rear and removing cowl give me access to brushes?? or do I have to remove that aluminum band
that battery terminals run thru... |

Re: mandingo8112
Take a picture of the back of your motor and post it here...
Year of your cart, type of cart, etc. would help as well. |

Re: mandingo8112
Thanks guys for your help...I just picked up this basket case, no wheels, no front end, hubs locked solid, sat outside for a few years at golf course..I
pulled motor, got rear bearing turning, spins great now, cleaned hubs of rust, regreased tranny, reepoxied brake shoe on one hub,Flipped old trailor out back, stole wheels, painted hubs, freed up brake cables, works like new.Just finished building backhoe from scratch and small electric cart from wheelchair motor and parts, I make knives and swords from high carbon steel and commercial chain saw bars,....now...before I slap this motor back in cart has anyone out there ever replaced brushes or were able to check their condition, prior to putting motor back in cart, and how big a job is it..? Re: mandingo8112
yes you can replace brushes but they arn,t like regular brush sets..........much larger and a bit harder to do, also cost more if you look at them you,ll see what i mean...............................

Re: mandingo8112
Ok shadowman,...I'll bite...tell me how I get a "look" at them.....Hal
Just checked and the back of motor and aluminum cowl on back is all one piece and terminals for battery hookup come through it with what looks like a fiber washer under bolt, Will taking out two bolts on back of motor allow the removal of cowl with the terminals still in place...or do thy have to be removed (pushed in) prior to pulling cowl back.? |

Re: mandingo8112
Take out the back bolts and the assembly will come off with the 2 armature terminals and brushes inside... still don't know the year or have pictures to refer to. Too much trouble to get that from you to give proper advice?
