Re: Powerdrive charger on IQ Plus cart, problem?
Club car came out with IQ Plus in 2006 which replaced the IQ system in their utility line of vehicles (except Carryall/Turf 1 which retained the older IQ system). The IQ Plus used eight 6-volt batteries (T105 standard or T145 optional) which replaced the prior six 8-volt battery configuration. The new system uses a 500 amp controller and a motor rated at 3.7 hp continuous and 21 hp intermittent output. With the larger battery pack amp-hours it makes a bit of sense that a higher-power charger might be important.
The Carryall/Turf 2 electric includes heavy springs front and rear, 6 ply tires (standard size), four wheel brakes, weighs 1200 pounds empty (with batteries), and has a payload of 1200 pounds. Pulling my little 4 by 8 trailer loaded to around 1000 pounds up a 5% turf slope with my 5-year old batteries in the Carryall 2 requires less than full throttle or it will reach scary speed. I didn't hear anything back from Club Car corporate, but I'm rather conforted by both the input of folks on this forum and the dealer assuring me of the merit of the older PowerDrive chargers. Having run this cart only a few days I'm very happy with several things: Dash-mounted forward/reverse; tons of speed and power up hills; very nice cargo bed without too much wheelbase. I'm glad I didn't go for a modified DS or Precedent, though our use/needs here on the farm and nursery is perhaps a bit more intensive than some. Annoyances: The bed sits on two rubber bumpers and bumpy ground causes a little side-to-side movement and squeeking despite application of silicone spray (need to try some other lube I suppose); there is no battery level guage or hour meter included standard equipment. Rear hitch and headlights are standard! |
