Default 1990 Club Car DS - Jerky engagement as I press on the accelerator

I have a 1990 Club Car DS 36V system with V-Glide and resistor coils. The batteries are 2.7 year old Trojans in good shape. My last set of Trojans lasted 7 years! Although they were pretty bad the last year or so.

My problem is that as you push down on the accelerator when the motor engages there is a fairly severe jerk. Or if you are going along and coasting as the power re-engages there is a sharp jerk. This happens the same in reverse as in forward. Could this be a problem with the solenoid or the the V-glide wiper switch assembly? I tried lightly sanding the points on the v-glide switch which seemed to help briefly but then the problem resumed. The F-R switch is new. This is a stock cart with mostly the original parts.

This is a great cart for use around our mini farm. I have had it for almost 15 years. My wife mostly drives it and she never complained about the jerks on starting up, but now I am using it for hauling a dump cart to move piles of wood chips we are putting every where. I would like to keep this cart going indefinitely.

I am new at working on these carts so please be patient!

Have you checked the resistor coils for any cracks?

I have examined them, but perhaps not closely enough. They all seem to get warm after I make a run.

I did jack up the rear end and with the v-glide cover off watched as pushed down on the accelerator. Everything looked normal to me - a novice.

I think I may have found the solution to my problem.

A gas 2008 Carryall Turf 2 for $3600.

This is just a guess, but I'd say the first speed resistor coil (real thin one furthest toward driver's side) is burnt in two or miswired and out of series.

Don't give up. These older 36v resistor carts are darn near bulletproof, and when they break down, they are very easy to fix, no expensive components. I'd check Stan's suggestion. Here is a color coded wiring diagram for your cart
