I knew there were capacitive start and capacitive run motors, but didn't know the capacitors were different.

Seems logical that the Run type cap would have a better continuous rating, so it would be the better choice for a charger application.

With the ammeter reading about 18A, the voltage is within the ballpark.

However, if you want to check it, the Lester procedure I posted along with the TC III service manual tells you how to do it.

These are the puppies you want. They can be harvested for free if you have dead appliance pickup at the curb, or at a waste transfer station or recycle center. Here in the south, they are routinely dumped on vacant property, where they are prime candidates for organ harvesting!
