You must have an automatic charger. It " sees " a voltage below the 12V threshold for a predetermined amount of time and shuts off to prevent damage. Try to borrow one from a friend that is a standard " trickle " charger. These are usually small, transformer ones that are 1½ - 2amps. Follow " scottyb's " procedure with it!
