Soldering should be fine for that connection! I would strap the wire to the solenoid with a tie wrap so it doesn't get pulled on, though.

The bottom line is .... you picked the best solenoid in the world to do this to.
The connection you are trying to make is external (as in exposed) . take a look and you will see the exposed wire, cut it off the connector and use a crimp connector. If you are unsure of this fix post a pic of your problem that shows the little wire connected to the bottom side......so we can verify you have the big brown 400a solenoid I refer to.

Is it the solenoid on the right at the bottom of this web page? http://cartsunlimited.net/Custom_Options.html

That is indeed my solenoid. You are "THE MAN", I didn't even notice that. What about putting the wires in a male/female spade connectors, so they can be unhooked when I work on the cart? This place never ceases to amaze me!

I don't see any reason the spade connectors would not work just make sure they are the insulated kind.

And new and tight fitting.... they should be the hard to get apart type... you know the ones, you think they are glued together when you try to pull em apart.

Yup those are the ones I use pliers to pull them apart
