Shorter belt help

See all this great info for shorter belts for newer carts but do they have them for the older? I have a 1988 Marathon and that belt seems to be 88 specific. Is there a shorter belt out there for me? Thanks

This thread doesnt specifically rely on ez go belts. It gives several references to different man. and applications that might work on your cart based on length and width. Just be sure you don't deviate from the original width or length by two much as the gearing ratio and shifting can be affected in a neg. way...Might be a little homework involved but the benefits of a shorter belt are worth it..

I looked up a stock belt for your cart. The OEM # is 23557-G1 and the dimensions are 1 3/16" x 45 1/2" A shorter belt is generally only about an inch shorter, so you are now looking for a belt that is 1 3/16" x 44 1/2" (1.188 x 44.5) I went to the Dayco dimensional belt look-up http://www.accessdayco.com/dimensional-lookup An HP3003 (1.188 x 44.875) or an HP3029 (1.188 x 44.563) will do the trick. Now that you have the Dayco numbers, you can order from your local parts house. You also have to ask yourself, do you want to try the 5/16" tighter belt and probably have no trouble shifting but less increase in torque or the 15/16" smaller belt which gives more torque and can sometimes be hard to shift until broken-in. Good luck and please double-check my numbers.

I have an ezgo 1984 Marathon that uses a oem belt as follows:

Measures approximately 1-3/16" W. x 45" O.D.
OEM # 14153-G1

Any recommendations on where I can find a shorter belt that would work on my cart?

It is a 2 cycle 244 cc robin engine.

I tried the dayco site above but couldn't figure out how to use the look-up.

Once you get to the site, click Snowmobile/ATV, then just click search without entering any parameters to see all belt listings. Upon looking through them I found 2 belts that would follow the general 1" shorter belt rule. The first is HP3004 (44.125 x 1.188=44 1/8" x 1 3/16")
or the
HP3029, which is only about a 1/2" shorter (44.563 x 1.188=44 9/16" x 1 3/16")
