Re: 1986 Yamaha G2/ NO SPARK
I know it may sound simple, but check every single wire to be sure something is not broken or disconnected, I don't know how many times i thought there was something seriously wrong with my G2 and just turned out to be a broken or loose wire (the previous owner beet the hell out of it, wires were hanging down got torn up, but i got it for FREE because he thought it was a total loss)

Thanks, rechecked all connections and applied silicone paste to all, still no spark.

Re: 1986 Yamaha G2/ NO SPARK
Tested primary circuit at coil, best of my knowledge (orange to core) no value, "open circuit". Bad coil?
Tested secondary circuit at coil (spark plug wire to core), 17.7k ohms. |

Yep...and in the next hour you will get bumped into the next usergroup and you won't have to do that anymore.....actually at the 25th minute of the next hour.

Re: 1986 Yamaha G2/ NO SPARK
How are you trying to start the engine, (Chances are you tried this already but i'll say it anyway) just normal pedal switch? have you tried jumping the solenoid? (if you take a screw driver just touch the top wire to the large wire towards the front of the cart) thats usually the first thing I do when i'm trying to find out why my **** golf cart wont work, sometimes it can just be something simple. I've never had to replace anything too serious with mine, just solenoid, key and pedal switches, and the entire wiring harness.

Re: 1986 Yamaha G2/ NO SPARK
Hope these tests help. coil resistance...Primary coil ,test coil not harness(- lead on orange/+ lead on r/w..3.57t 4.83 ohms)/secondary coil..(+ on r/w and - on spark plug coil wire...11.2 to 15.2 K ohms. Note: you can unscrew your spark plug cap, cut off a small section (to get a fresh end) and screw it back on (might be your problem). Pickup coil resistence...unplug round connector from wire harness (there will be blue-w/r and w/b wires) - lead on w/b and + lead on w/r.... should read 495 to 605 ohms. If all checks out. I would think internal wire harness problem. Good luck Dave

Re: 1986 Yamaha G2/ NO SPARK
Tested coil with all tests given to me and everything was, (in spec.). Tested wiring again, tested ground at harness end at igniter (no Ohms). Started looking REALLY close.
BATTERY WAS CONNECTED IN REVERSE!!! ALL IS GOOD, AND WHAT DO YOU KNOW, IT RUNS!!! Thanks a bunch all to who replied, D.A.S. |
