Default 85 G2 Yamaha

1985 G2 Runs then stops
by kruse04 » Wed May 16, 2012 3:46 pm

Looking for Help I have a 85 G2 Since I purchased it there has been an issue that it will run for a while then just die. I have replaced all the fuel, fuel filter, generator, Spark plug, Igniter,Ignition, Air Filter (Also case is tight), Also the Ignition Coil. I have had it at the shop looked at also and they claimed they fixed it and it worked for awhile then does same thing. What happens is you can be driving along and it randomly will just stop running. You can try restarting but starter will just run. if you wait 10 min or so it runs again until the next time. Sometimes it runs longer than others. I have seen some posts on line with same issue but have not seen any answers. I have checked when it dies and I do still have a spark. Would it be the carb? (The shop claims they rebuilt it last year) Fuel pump I disconnected hose and still pumps gas? I also checked compression it was 160. Please help

Sounds to me like you've changed out every possible ignition component, so yeah, I would tear apart the carb and clean it up. Remove the jets and clean them thoroughly with carb cleaner. It's not that often that a carb will cause these kind of problems (engine runs for a while then dies), but it's about the only way to determine the problem is to continue the process of elimination.

could be some trash floating around in the carb. float bowl, it eventually gets sucked up and blocks fuel flow.

mine was doing this too, it was the vacume line from the engine to the fuelpump was very swelled loosing it's pulse
