Re: Motor Won't Slide Off
No locking screw on the shaft, which is enclosed at coupling. I suggest you try the method used by ForBruce. Lossen the long bolts, slide the motor housing off the armature and then spray a good solvent/penetrating oil at the coupling joint, soak for an hour wiggle the h--- out of it and catch the armature before it hits the floor. Good luck.

Re: Motor Won't Slide Off
Nope there isn't suppose to be any locking set screw or anything else holding on according to everyone I've talked to. I still haven't gotten it off and about the only thing I haven't tried it heat, because I don't have anything that would heat it up enough.
Tomorrow after work I'm going to give it another try by pulling and prying. I took the rear tire off so I would have a little more access to it. |

Re: Motor Won't Slide Off
UPDATE!!! After several hours of working hard on this with the help of my brother-in-law we got 1/2 of it off, but we're still no closer to the finish line it seems.
First let me explain what we did to get the case off. We put a bolt through the bracket on the case and then a long pipe on it and whacked it good a few times. Then we took the 2 long bolts off the end so that we could slide the whole case off. Now we're left with what you see and can't get it off. We sprayed it down with WD40 and PB Blaster so we're going to let it sit overnight and try something else tomorrow. Any other suggestions would be great!!!! I WANT MY NEW MOTOR ON!!!! I'M HAVING WITHDRAWALS FOR SPEED!! Side note: Painters tape was wrapped around the end so we wouldn't damage it while tapping on it. |

Re: Motor Won't Slide Off
You are almost there!! I used paint thinner as the solvent to work at the end of the shaft. 3/4 times then sprayed in Liquid wrench for overnight. Next AM, a couple of light whacks and off it came.
Hang in there |

Re: Motor Won't Slide Off
Sorry it took me so long to find this thread.... Here's what ya do... Not a joke... This is for real. I've never had it let me down. Take the entire drive unit out of the car. Stand it on the passenger side axle. Spray PB Blaster on the input shaft and let it soak for a solid 24 hours. After that, lightly heat the motor shaft with a torch. Pick up the drive unit 3 to 4 feet in the air, and drop it on the passenger side axle. Make sure to start a few lug nuts on the threads so you don't damage them. You may want to have someone hold their hands under the motor to catch it when it comes flying off.

Re: Motor Won't Slide Off
I would think there are more controlable solutions before it gets to that point but to each their own.
