Tire change and speed
This may help someone. To calculate the top speed of an electric golf car, use the equation below:
RPM’s of motor X Tire Radius (in inches) / Gear Ratio X 168 = Miles per Hour Example: A golf car with 3000 RPM motor with an 8" tire and a 12.44:1 gear ratio (a standard in golf cars): 3000 X 8 / 12.44 X 168 = 11.48 mph (standard speed for golf cars) • with 10" tires, top speed is 14.35 mph • with 12" tires, top speed is 17.23 mph 3000X8=24000 12:44X168=2089 24000 div by 2089=11.48 MPH |

Re: Tire change and speed
i believe your math is flawed. 8 10 and 12 would refer to rim sizes. stock tire size would be 18" stated. actual may vary.........

Re: Tire change and speed
I think they were assuming that a 8' wheel would have a 18" tire,a 10" would be 20.5" and so on. Is that about what a stock cart does?

However with all the variables involved i agree a GPS is probably the most accurate. |

Re: Tire change and speed
You should do the math for the value of the increased torque as well. Take a typical 1000 lb cart and factor in the change in moment arm negatively affecting the force required to turn the wheel. You'll need this number to see if your motor will still be capable of 3000 rpm. There is a point where there is no longer excess torque and rpm will decrease (some guys have seen this effect on as small as 20" tires and stock motor/wiring). Without knowing what the final (not the current) rpm will be the original equation cannot work. If you have a 3 hp motor that will turn 3000 rpm with a given load from a given power source it will eventually not have the strength to keep turning 3000. Then of course you have to make certain the old and new tires have the same coeffcient of friction (width and pressure). Or, you could get out the gps.......
