Firm Brakes
I noticed that my new IQ DS has much stiffer brakes than my old 1996 series DS. Are they supposed to be this way? On my 96 there was a bout an inch of play until you actually started braking. On my new DS, there is no play- right when you touch the pedal you are applying the brakes. Let me know if this is supposed to be this way. Thanks!

Re: Firm Brakes
Mine were tight like that and ruined the brake shoes. Had to replace them. Also made the cart seem slow. Going up hill was even worse.

Re: Firm Brakes
Not sure about the newer ones, but on my 87 ds there is an adjustment bolt on the back of the drum plate.

Re: Firm Brakes
. . should be 1/4 to 1/2" of pedal travel prior to brakes engaging . . . brake equalizer cable under vehicle is where this is accomplished . . .

Re: Firm Brakes
There should be 1/4" to 1/2" "free play" on your pedal before the brakes actuate,
I adjusted mine about as tight as your experiencing, and it was difficult to set the hill (parking) brake, and it was tiring on my chin muscles during cart parades! I backed mine off for a 1/4" free play and haven't had problems since! Darn it!!!! Steve beat me to it! |
