I've been wondering as well. We want to get a new dash and new steering wheel as well, but I'm concerned about removing the old steering wheel. I've read things that you need a steering wheel puller, using your knees, and as simple as whacking it once with a rubber mallet and it comes lose.

Re: New dash question
The one I bought from Everything Carts is pretty cool. It has a slit right below the hole for the steering column and you just slip it over the steering column, so you dont have to remove the wheel. We'll see how well it works out.

Re: New dash question
The hardest part (at least that I thought) was drilling the holes in the aluminum trim for the mounting screws,
If the dash isn't sitting just right, you can miss the aluminum trim all together, and have to drill on a slight angle to hit it, which in turn, makes your mounting screws look crooked. AND... you need just the right size drill bit, too small and the screw head snaps off, too big, and they loosen up. start out just drilling one hole and test a screw with a hand held screwdriver, it should turn somewhat hard by hand, but doable. once you get the drill size right, it'll be a breeze! |
