Thumbs up Re: Carryall 272 locking transaxle in a DS

Excellent, helpful write up. Very useful!
I too have swapped to a 272 rear end into my 04 carryall 6 and had the same speed loss I was getting 22mph with stock rear now with the 272 diff I get 17mph

Can I add high speed gears for a DS to this 272 rear end?

Anyone?

I know this is an old topic, but I am sure I am not alone in finding it quite intereasting and helpful.
I have found having a cable selectable differential lock is excellent for those of us who wish to plow snow or even play in the mud. I can push huge piles of snow with my rear locked and chains on. It would blow your mind what this heavy carryall can get through with this excellent, highly recommended mod!

I tried installing ds high speed gears and even though they look the same, they won't work because, turns out the 272 rear's gears are spaced further apart inside the case. Once installed, I could put my finger between the gears.

I have one removed from a good 2005 272 I'd trade it even Steven for a good 2004+ ds or precident rear end.
