![]() New here. I just bought a hand full. It is a 1981 G1. I have a loud grinding noise. Thought it was the primary clutch, but I investigated a little more and have some end play (up and down) in the crank shaft. Can anyone help me? Could this be something other than a crank bearing? Is a crank bearing job that complicated to do?

![]() Is the crank moving up/down or just the connecting rod? The crank bearings are easy to change if you have the right tools.

![]() the motor is still in the cart. when i grab the primary clutch, there is a little play up and down and when i run it it sounds very loud.

![]() Ok, I will start planning and get ready for this job. Kinda worried bout it,but you guys seem to be good help. Just purchased a service manual (pdf style). i am pretty sure i will need some specialty tools. Any advice on wich ones and where to get em'?

![]() You'll need a cheap puller set for removing the flywheel and for splitting the case. You'll also need a puller to remove the drive clutch. You could spend the money and buy them, or search the forum for creative ways that guys have come up with for doing this on the cheap.

![]() I have the same problem with my 84 G1. When I went to replace the seals I found that the bearings are shot on the clutch side. In fact it looks like some are missing or it could be that the metal retainer is all gone. Anyway what is the best way to change out the clutch side crank bearing? Does anyone know of pictures or a video of this being done. I have heard that it is not hard. I also heard that they are pressed on. Can someone tell me what needs to be done?

![]() You'll have to split the cases, remove the crank, press off the bearings, freeze the new bearings, warm the cases up in the grill, drop the new frozen bearings right in. Freeze the crank, warm up the bearings in the case on low heat, drop the crank in the bearings, then press the cases together. Let them cool. Install sealant and bolts and torque it up. Once you have the crank and bearings frozen, the whole process took me 15 minutes.
