Post 2000.5 DS slow speeds - how to increase
Greetings! I am working on a friends’ post 2000.5 Club Car DS. The cart is in very good shape, with new batteries and cables. The batteries are 6x8v US Batteries US8VGC. Cables between batteries are 4ga, but the +/- cables going to the controller appear to be 6 or 8ga. I have not pulled the rear cover to check the motor or controller yet. The cart has very good torque - enough to spin the tires in forward or reverse in my shop, but quickly tops out at 12mph on a slight decline, and 10mph going up the same slight incline. How do I go about increasing the speed on this cart? Surely it’s throttled. I have read about speed codes, but I assume that only applies to post 2004 models with the IQ system. Anybody got some pointers for me? He only uses this cart to check the mail or tool around his property. It has 205/50-10 tires on all corners. Thanks for any help you can offer!

Captbs, I accepted your friend request, but I don’t seem to have a way to pm you... maybe because my account is brand new?

That much torque it sounds like a series cart which you will not get much faster without some serious work.
Does it have a rocker switch FnR or a big lever FnR switch? |

It’s a big lever mounted on the vertical surface under the seat. 90 degree swing. Mechanical contacts in the battery compartment.

Controller or Coils? Being 48 volt I’d guess it has a controller. AlltraxSR controller and an AMD Beast motor would wake that baby up

That's about all you get out of a stock series drive system. The DS in my signature does about 23 mph.

Re: Post 2000.5 DS slow speeds - how to increase
Since it's not my cart, I would hesitate to put any serious money into it. The owner is my pastors' father, and he's on a pretty limited budget. I just thought if there was something I could do while it's in my shop to get a little more speed out of it, I'd like to do it. I snapped some pics of the FnR switch, controller (?) And motor. Sorry about the clarity - the rear seat is mounted in a way that I have to take the rear half of the canopy frame off to remove the seat. If I have to remove it to make any changes, I will... But if nothing can be done I don't want to waste the couple of hours it would take to R&R everything.
Edit: Well...I’m having some issues with posting photos from google photos. Any pointers on sharing pics? I tried adding the five pics as attachments, but they are not displaying. |
