Default Motor Hot/Burning Smell

Hi all, I have a 2007 parcar Summit (vin# 5FCLS46A371000132) which I fixed up this last year with everything running smoothly. Last night after taking it out I noticed a burning smell coming from the rear. Around motor/controller area. The motor was very hot to the touch (could not touch it for more than a second or two without burning) so I’m assuming it’s that. It ran perfectly with no cause for concern (no slowing) and no error codes. Any suggestions on what it may be or what I should check? Preferably would like to avoid running it before I fix it to avoid burning anything up —if I already haven’t. Thanks!

Might be a motor brush stuck on you. Easiest way to check is to pull the cage off the back of the motor (disconnect the battery pack first!). You can start with it still in the vehicle just to look at it.

Here's a link to the blog tip on motor inspection for that motor. That unit as an LSV would have had the Heavy Duty motor 719339/69301-04/CVG193787u. If the armature and field wiring survived, you could get by with new brushes and brush card, but if the armature is damaged too you'd need a new motor.

Good luck on your adventure!
