charging batteries

I have a 2003 Club Car, with 6 - 8 volt batteries. Car has not been used in 6 months, so I'm pretty sure the batteries are fully discharged. I tried useing my powerdrive battery charger and it would not kick on, even borrowed my neighbors and the same thing, nothing. So, I'm thinking the voltage in each battery is too low for the charger to come on. My question is, can I use a 12 volt or 12amp automotive battery charger and charge up each battery individually for about 30 mins to bring it back up enough where the golf cart battery charger will kick on and start charging? If not what can I use, a different kind of auto charger? Or what would you suggest?

yes, but i personally wouldn't do it like that... i prefer the relay bypass method. the computer controls the charger, when batteries get too low the computer cannot trigger the charger to switch on. bypassing the relay forces the charger to come on. you can leave it like this until the pack voltage gets high enough that the computer can switch the charger on by itself, then its best to return the charger to normal to prevent overcharging. i know there is a photo of the procedure on here somewhere, i just can't find it at the moment.

1 thing you can be sure of is the batteries themselves have been compromised by this abuse. They will always be less effective than they were before you left them in a state of discharge for 5-6 months.
