Yamaha G2 project help
Hey guys so I’ve always wanted a cart to bomb around on but never could spend the money so I picked up a project that needed a head gasket and now I need help
Here’s what I’ve done so far New head gasket 160 psi compression Valves lapped to .004 New plug New gas New throttle cable mounted directly to carb and removed gov cable New crankcase to valve cover hoses New battery Cleaned carb and all jets and ports Set idle 2 turns out My issue is that it runs but bogs when I get to half+ throttle The other thing I can’t tell is if my clutch is engaging which is hard to test without being able to do full throttle. Any help appreciated thanks |

Re: Yamaha G2 project help
Make sure you're using an OEM mikuni carb (NOT mokini) and make sure your airbox is 1000% sealed tight. Just the airbox lid being even a little loose will cause exactly what you describe.
Also make sure the plastic spacer between the carb and the head is not cracked. They crack very easily |

Another thing too, on top of the carb there is a screw (not the idle or the cable screw) but a brass screw I had out most of the time have a small hole through it, I tried clearing the orifice but not sure if it passes through or not

Re: Yamaha G2 project help
The screw on the top should be screwed all the way in. It's not adjustable.
It will never run right with a cone filter on it. Like I said, it will bog like crazy if the just the lid isnt 100% completely sealed. Running an open filter on the carb is going to make it run WAY lean. You'll need to find the hose to connect the airbox, and repair it. check ebay or the buy/sell section here on the forum to see if someone has one. Most of the parts are still available new except for 2 I think. Its pricey for an entire airbox but you dont have much choice. If you have 160 compression, and theres no smoke or knocking there no reason it shouldn't run great. Those motors are quite robust |
