Default G9 rear body heat shield?

I am in the process of rebuilding the motor and fixing a lot of small issues to get this thing back on the road.

It is a '93 G9.

Is there supposed to be a heat shield where this rust stain is on the underside of the rear body panel? Or is this some old hack job or something?

Yes, it protected the rear body from the muffler heat. I dought you'll ever find an OEM replacement, but there are plenty of foil covered heat shield materials you can use to cover the old one. Good luck on your build

Do you know of a picture of what it is supposed to look like?

Seems like it would be off the the pass. side like the muffler, but what do I know. Was it riveted thru the plastic? Threre are two holes there that kind of look like they got real hot and pulled thru?

Thanks for the help.

Thanks for the pic. Mine doesn't have any steel structure to it, just a plastic panel. I was able to get mine going for the 4th of July and have been driving it since without issue, but I probably should do something back there.

Glad to assist! I sure would, mine was running rich the first time I drove it for more than 2 mins and when I lifted the seat it was hot under there.

So if you take your seat and the plastic body piece under the seat off... you have no metal framework?

My heat shield bolts to that framework
