Default EZGO sb50 to newer charger

My cart has an sb50 connector. My charger has the newer connector for 95 and up.. not sure the name of it... I am going to replace the charger receptacle with an sb50.. when I take apart the newer charge controller there are three wires, not two. Red, black and white... the black one goes to the cart, the white one goes to the cart, and the red one is in between the two and doesn't make contact with the cart.. so do I connect the white and black to the sb50? Or red and black as I would have thought???

Thanks.. I'd post some pics but I haven't been on here seven days yet.. :-)

Oh, also... when I plug in the charger and try to test with meter, I get no voltage on any of the connections..

... I think I found the answer.. the red wire is the inhibit wire to prevent the cart from running while pluggged in. So if I hook up black to black and white to red on the sb50 it should be good to go... right???

... oh and no voltage on the charger with meter because it needs to sense the voltage from the batteries before engaging... sometimes it just helps to type it out.. :-).

Ok, fingers crossed nothing blows up!!

red wire should be the blade switch-you dont need it...i cut mine out of the loop and everything is fine...the blade switch is a safety device to keep you from driving off with the charger plugged in-so run the charge cord through the steering wheel and you are good!

That makes sense.. but the red wire I have is inside the charger side recepticle. I'm wondering if it needs to be connected to the white wire as well?? How long before the charger should start charging once I plug it in? I don't see lights or anything no the charger..

Running the charge cable through the steering wheel is a great idea!!!

When you plug a standard D plug in I am pretty sure red becomes common with black, not white. Hopefully the logic board in the charger survived.. What charger is this btw ?

It is a powerwise plus model 28115G05. I haven't crossed the inhibit wire with any of the others yet so the board should be fine. Although all I have is the word of the guy I bought it from that it works. His cart was stolen and I bought his charger..
