A few questions, hoping the OP won't mind. If the rest of the cart is 2 GA cables, and a 500 amp controller, will a 4 gauge cable on the Anderson connector be enough? Can they be made with 2 ga?

I've seen several threads where HDPE was used to build a floor on the rack, where can that be sourced? Is there any reason to NOT use HDPE to close in the battery compartment and reduce dirt and gunk getting in?

Here is one. Go to "Specials." They have cutoffs and blems.
http://www.thecuttingboardfactory.com

Another is www.onlinemetals.com then click on "Plastics."

I have a curiosity question. I have 6 2012 6v "Black Box" Trojans in my cart that are still in very good shape. If I decide to convert to Lithium what do I do with my old batts?

Yep, I want to buy some 5 year old batteries.... Just based on their age, their value is limited.

I wasn't looking for a resale value, but what to do with them period. I can't just put them on the curb for the trash.

Anyone who sells new batteries must properly dispose of used batteries (send them back for recycling), if you talk to the right people, you might get $10 each for their lead value. Pretty much anyone who sells new batteries ought to be willing to at least take them for recycling. Try auto parts store, Walmart, local golf cart shop. Local o'reillys will give a $10 card for junk starting battery, maybe talk with the manager & you can come out with a nice gift card.

Those around here are worth 25 clams apiece for core charge on new ones, wish I had had some a couple of months ago. We have guys come to the farm every couple of months looking to buy old batts, so they do have value!

Yeah, but don't go in expecting them to offer you as much as they would charge if you were buying batteries & had no cores. Last time I traded in a bunch of starting battery cores to our battery distributor, I had to bargain at my best to get $12/each, when they were charging $15 for core charge. They got ya over a barrel.

Yeah I realize that. So 72 bucks for 6 batts. But they still have life in them. I'll bet if the poster puts an add on CL for 100 bucks for the pack, someone will pick them up that can't afford better and get a year [or 2] out of them. Beats walking!
