Default 2000 ezgo txt motor problem

My 2000 ezgo txt 36 volts motor was getting too hot where it would not move anymore and just clicked so I took it out and took it apart and ordered new brushes and bearing , before I put it back together should I take it to a motor place and get it checked and rewound the armature does look darkish The batteries are new and was fully charged when this happened more than once
