Default Charger not working

Cart was brought to me to look at. Battery pack voltage is 36V. I plugged in the 36V charger and the amp hand would barely wiggle and that was it. Charger plug has 3 wires, one to the plus and one to the minus sides of the battery pack, and one little red wire that I assume goes to the controller. This is a PDS cart. The reason it was brought to me is that it slows down a lot on hills now. I assume it is because of low voltage. I am going to charge them 2 at a time and do a load test and go from there. Any other ideas out there? Appreciate any help.

A PDS drive will be slow on hills with the battery pack less than 50% charged.
What is make/model of batteries?

Okay, if a PW-II turns on, but the amps out are low, the problem is going to be one leg of the fuse in the window is blown, or one of the diodes is bad, or the capacitor has drifted in value, or the transformer is bad. Could also be a bad ammeter. In other words everything in the battery charger circuit is suspect.

Here is a service manual and a troubleshooting guide for it.

Please note the capacitor value is serial number dependent.

Also could the controller be causing this?

The cart's speed controller has no influence on battery charging.

The chargers "control" board only turns the charge on and off, it has no influence on how many amps the charger puts out.

Causing what? Low amps from charger or the cart being slow on hills.

The cart is slow on hills because the batteries are not charged an d the batteries are not charged because the amps out of the charger is low.

Get the charger working and the batteries charged and the cart will very likely climb hills normally.

The diode test shows both diodes bad and the transformer test shows only 62 volts ac. which indicates a open capacitor. I will replace both and see what happens. Thanks for the help.

Diodes and capacitor replaced and charger is working fine now. One battery has a bad cell so batteries are in the near future.
