Put a clone in it, use neutral. You'll be pleased with the power and ease of install.

But.... I'm sure there's a way to modify the stock wiring to disconnect the stop switch under the gas pedal. But then you'll need to rig up a toggle switch to stop the engine.

Wiring diagrams are posted on here in stickies iirc. Most yamaha the power goes to the key, to the pedal switch, and when both are on then to the run solenoid and ignition. If so then all you have to do is put a switch from after the key to after the pedal switch (to bypass it) and it will keep running when pedal is released but still stop if you turn key off. You will have to set the idle speed on the carb. You may have issues with the stock clutch dragging the belt at idle the idle will have to be very slow, though you can warm it up in neutral then stop it to shift into gear.....and it wont matter if the belt drags going down a hill while idling. Make sure the idle is faster than the gen/starter turns it over or it will kill your battery. I always set my cart to idle that way but have to hold the pedal on a little to do it. It starts up much nicer that way.

Pantera, G16's dont use a spring in the primary so makeing them idle is not recommend. Like Sho said, you have to set the idle high enough so it's not just running on the starter, by the time you do that the primary is closing already and will prematurely wear your belt and gum up your primary.

You will also have just about nonexistent oiling to the top of the motor.

I would think it would get better oiling instead of constantly stopping and starting.

What I did is had a stick that fit in the floor at the gas pedal, it would hold it at a fast idle. I'd put in neutral and use that to warm up. I only did that because I was jumping something off the battery or running a compressor off it, otherwise I can sit on the cart for 30 seconds to warm it up in the winter that is all it takes.

You don't need to worry about starting and stopping a lot, the gen system is made to do that. If you have starting issue try to richen the idle circuit on the carb, mine will start with no choke cold to 50F or so, and still start under that if I crank it for 20 times. I have this clone working the same way as my stock engine did. I rarely use the choke only under 50 on cold starts.
