Ive done hundreds by hand and never an issue. However, you have to know when the armature is too damaged to be done by hand. At that point a proper turn and undercut would be required which would still be less than a new motor. Its actually very rare I install a new motor. |

Depends how bad off the comm is. If it has deep score marks and burns from the brushes not making contact I take it to a motor shop and have them cut it. Especially if the brush set is expensive like the IQ motors. Don't need them wearing out or getting damaged for lack of a clean comm surface.
I've done a couple non-cart motors that I just cleaned up with fine grit sand paper. But you have to make sure you get all of the dust off afterwards. Lots of electronics cleaner spray and compressed air. |
