2014 precedent clubcar excel system
I have a 2014 clubcar precedent golfcart 48 volts excel system. The resistor diode on the solenoids keep burning out when Cart turns on. Was doing a simple maintenance on the cart cleaning and painting the suspension when I smell something burning. Disconnected the main terminals immediately. Removed the batteries later and opened compartment area where the controller and solenoid are. Noticed the diode on the solenoid burnt. Can anybody tell me if I have a faulty solenoid.

Re: 2014 precedent clubcar excel system
That is usually a sign of a short in the controller (sometimes the motor) as the resistor supplies a small amount of current to the controller across the large posts while the solenoid is open. Now it has a large amount of current flowing through it and it cannot handle the load and is getting hot.
You will need to check your controller and motor. You can disconnect the motor cables and if then it still heats up, you will know it is the controller. Be sure to be in Tow and disconnect the Main Pack Neg before you pull the cables to prevent any new damage. |

Ok. Disconnected the motor. Connect the solenoid and batteries back. Put it from tow to run and turn on switch and placed in forward. Heard solenoid clicks on as well as controller. Did this in forward and reverse. So I believe it’s the motor. Can you conquer

Did the resistor get hot when you did the test?

Re: 2014 precedent clubcar excel system
Don't clear the Controller or blame the Motor yet since a bad Controller output driver would only show problems if you provide a path from B+ to M-, which a good motor does.
You need to place your multimeter between Controller B+ and M- (with motor disconnected) to see if You get voltage. If You do, the Controller FETs are shorted. |

Placed the multimeter between the B+ and M- had a reading of 6.9 volts.
