Default Batteries boiling and smell like rotten eggs

2014 Precedent, we bought it used this summer. It was all stock. The seller installed all new Trojen batteries as part of the deal.

I installed a Alltrax controller, and a bigger motor, cables, relay etc. A kit I bought from Carts unlimited. We are using the stock club car charger we got with the cart from the seller.

Been fine all summer, and cart is stored in a attached garage. Hasn't gotten anywhere near freezing in the garage this year.

Kids took the cart for a ride today, it's about 50 out. Brought it back to the garage, parked it and plugged in the charger. Same as they always do.

I come home from work and the garage reeks of rotten egg smell. The charge meter on the cart read 67 volts, and when I lifted the seat I could hear the batteries boiling.

I unplugged the charger of course. But what is my next step to diagnose this?

Sounds normal. How long did you let it charge?

Just out of curiosity what is the date code stamped on the negative post of the batteries. It should be something like F9.
Check the water levels.

Date code is C9 as stamped on the top of the negative terminals.

I don't think this is normal. Cart has been in the garage all summer with the charger I have never smelled it like that.

I topped off the batteries with distilled water about 2 weeks ago, there is a bunch of something wet all over the top of the batteries right now. Not sure if it's water or acid. Still waiting for it to cool off before I start messing with them.

Voltage still reading 53v

What is hot? That would be the only thing not normal here. And it looks like you overfilled the batteries.

How long did it charge before you unplugged it?

FYI - the batteries do not boil. They do let off gas which sounds like boiling water but if you place your hand on the side of the battery you see it 10º above ambient temperature at most. Off gassing is a normal part of the bulk charge cycle. In this phase the heavy elements are mixed back into the water from off the bottom of the cells.
It does sound like you could have put too much water in the batteries?

Mine does the same thing when I overfill the batteries slightly - totally normal, especially after playing 36 holes.

I'm assuming that you have an eric charger and you stated that it has been fine all summer but you still my need to change the algorithm/profile of the charger if the seller didn't...To check what algorithm you have now and to how change it if need be go to this thread and scroll down to jonr3's post for a good explanation of what to do...

I definitely could have overfilled the batteries. I didn't realize that could cause an issue. Why would having too much water cause this issue?

Any suggestions for getting the excess water out? It's going to be acidic now, I assume.

It will be battery acid now. Years ago I bought a cart that the owner had fill the batteries to top. I used a turkey baster to remove the excess. Unfortunately the battery solution is now somewhat deluded.
