48 or 72???
Hey Guys. I have a '94 medalist with the BEAST motor. It currently has a Curtis 1203(can't remember exact number) 550 Amp 36-48 Volt controller. The batteries are shot as well as the solenoid, so the cost of new batteries and solenoid is basically a moot point. I am also going to buy a new charger whichever way I go (48 or 72) which should be close to the same price.
The speed with the beast motor is less than awe inspiring (we drive around full throttle the whole time), and the only way to fix this is with more Volts. Most of our driving is done in a trailer park(out at the river) with some mild off roading. Do you guys think it is cost effective to step up to the 72 Volts? The extra cost would be a new controller and different batteries. Would I have any problems with reliability at that voltage? Some times we are miles away from camp, and I would hate to have to get pulled back... What would be the best controller for 72V? How much would my range suffer when going with 6 12V batteries? What are the best 12V batteries on the market right now? Thanks guys and awesome forum!!! |

If done right you want loose any run time and may even gain some.
I bought mega troll three years ago and they are still performing fine. |

Re: 48 or 72???
Listen to Andy he's the expert, but a buddy of mine has 05 EZ Go with the beast motor, 700amp controller, upgraded cables, etc, converted to 48 volts, with high speed gears. He runs about 25mph, but has a ton of torque! It's a nice combo. for both speed and torque. He can only get more performance with more volts, he's content for now. Runtime is very good.

Re: 48 or 72???
I can ride the cart all day at the beach and play hard with it. I have yet to run it out of juice except when I take it to the campground 13 miles away and back after playing on it.

Alltrax did have a problem a year or so ago with this model but has since fixed the problem. And it's the programmable version. |

Re: 48 or 72???
I have the same controller as pggrooves and haven't had the first problem with it.
The contact was $90.00. I bought it at cloud electric. |
