1980 CC votage conversion

I have heard that these old resister cars can be converted to higher voltage by simply replacing the 6v batteries with 8v or 12v to jump to 48v or 72v. Is it really that simple or are there other things that need replacing? The first thing that comes to mind would be the resister coil. Is it possible to us five 12v batteries for a 60v cart.

Quite a few guys have upgraded to 48V or higher. Yes you should get a new solenoid, and definitely upgrade the wiring to 4ga. Refurb or replace the F/R switch as well seems a smart move. If you do a quick search here you'll find a lot of posts about this subject, and what was done to "do it right".

When you say "yes replace the solenoid" do you mean all five? And were might I find higher voltage solenoids? Also is a five battery 60 volt cart out of the question. The 72v carts I've seen are a little too jumpy.

Your cart will not do well on 48 volts. Your solenoids are not rated and can weld themselves shut in a WOT situation.... It is not reccommended to try to run 48 volts thru resistor coils or 36v solenoids...... something will melt sooner or later. I don't care who you are!
You can, however, change the speed control system to solid state and safely go up in voltage
